Hello fellow hungry friends!

I first learnt of the splendid world of baking from my nana when she would always make the best biscuits you’ll ever eat. Sorry. It if you think your nana make the best biscuits. You are wrong. Both my nanas in fact make amazing ones, they’re actually different flavours, which is probably a great thing, we don’t want any battle of the nana going on in the family! Bake off with my nanas, no Nanas bake it on, or Nanas battled it out! So Nanas T makes these amazing melting moments, they literally MELT in your mouth, I could eat them for DAYS! Nana S makes chocolate chip bikkies, I know, not that extravagant or different. But they’re a good classic made perfectly and they are oh so good!!

So here are some of my top tips for baking. That’s baking cakes, cupcakes, cookies, anything really. This is what I have learnt so far in my years of baking.

***Side note.. this will be an on going post, I will keep adding to it as time goes. Then soon we’ll have a whole book of tips – yay! Keep checking in to get more tips. Also I’d love to hear more tips from you.. so please do let me know 🙂

Getting the Egg shell out

Made an Oppsy and dropped a bit of that bloody egg shell in the batter? No worries mate! Just wet your clean finger and the egg shell should stick to your finger like glue! How easy right!?

Perfectly cut a cake – every time.

Just get some unscented dental floss and use it as a knife. You’ll have none of that annoyed ‘argh half the cake is on the knife now!’

‘Cream Butter and Sugar’

When the recipe says ‘cream the butter and sugar’ make sure you use your electric mixer to cream the butter on it’s own first until it’s soften and smooth. That way the sugar will cream right in a lot easier.

Need to add a liquid to your buttercream (e.g syrup, melted chocolate etc)? I recommend adding it to the butter once you have creamed it to make it soft and with about 2 tablespoons of icing sugar. Mix it until just combined. Mix in the rest of the icing sugar. YAY!

Vanilla Extract over Essence

Im sorry to say it because extract can be a lot more expensive than essence. BUT vanilla extract is the real sh*t (excuse the expletive). You get an actual vanilla flavour and bonus – its made from real vanilla beans. I really like the Heilala Vanilla one, it’s comes in such a cute little bottle and it taste like vanilla!

Have any tips you could pass onto me? I’d love to hear them! Comment below or send me an email. I can’t wait to hear from you.

Thank you for existing!
Talk soon.

  1. Hi Lauren,
    Great tips,
My favourite one is never use plastic microwave safe cake moulds in the oven, they melt…
Microwave safe doesn’t mean oven safe.
I learnt that the hard way hahhahahahahaha

    1. Hahaha This is great!! Thanks Nicky.
That is a great tip.. Plastic and oven don’t work – got it! Haha <3
